Eynsford Today

Eynsford is a picture postcard village set in the Darent Valley in the North West of Kent with a population of around 2500. It rests in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is popular with tourists and locals alike.

The village has excellent transport links with London and other parts of Kent being close to three motorways and with a regular rail service.

Eynsford is a regular entrant to the Village of the Year (www.villageoftheyear.org) and South & South East in Bloom (www.rhs.org.uk/britaininbloom ) competitions. In 2006 Eynsford was named Kent Village of the Year and reached Silver Gilt level in the South & South East in Bloom competition. A group of volunteers meet regularly to make sure the village looks its best at all times of year.

Eynsford is part of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and lies in the Darent Valley. The river Darent rises in the chalk of the North Downs above Sevenoaks, runs through villages including Otford, Shoreham, Eynsford, Farningham, Horton Kirby and Sutton at Hone, eventually flowing out into the Thames estuary. There are Sites of Special Scientific Interest in nearby Lullingstone Park.

Eynsford has three tiers of local government - Eynsford Parish Council, Sevenoaks District Council and Kent County Council. Each tier has a different role and its own powers. More information about these can be found here.
